My name is Abbey, and I am a visual artist based in Darwin, Northern Territory.
I primarily use the still life tradition in my practice, taking my life-long love of collecting objects, to portray the unique domestic and architectural styles of northern Australia.
These intimate views inside houses and gardens aim to reconsider perceptions of tropical living – of bright postcard sunsets and palm trees, to explore a more nuanced experience: one shaped by the pleasure of shade, of resilience and unruliness, joy and hardship, tradition and transformation, and of great cultural exchange.
In this way I hope to bring a perspective of the tropical north that is celebrated for its complexity and depth, and enduring influence.
